Down Again by RobCaswell Down Again by RobCaswell
This is a rework of my previously published "Downtime". The first version was a sort of "proof of concept", but was rushed in many areas. Most notably it lacked figures. On this version I took my time. Too much time, in some ways. There's about a week's worth of work here, on and off. But I do like the result better. Consider it my "special edition" (but Han still shoots first).

Before you ask, no I don't have a 3D Edoan figure. Or even an Edosian figure ;p I digitally painted in that figure using Nightwing1975's nightwing1975.deviantart.com/ Arex as a reference. I tried to hit all the key component credits, but there's literally bits and pieces from everywhere, here. So my thanks to all those credited and all those I couldn't dig up names on.

This is probably one of the most elegant and functional Star Trek ship out there.

The people and alien characters add so much to this scene. They give it a sense of life and scale that I love in Sci Fi art. Gort, nice touch. Thanks for sharing your talents.

I really enjoy doing these kind of panoramic "slice of life" images that the original Trek just couldn't afford to do. It adds a layer of reality to the Trek universe for me.

Y'know, this is just an amazing scene. It shows what so few people think of when Star Trek is mentioned: the normal, daily, routine things that are needed to boldly go find new hot alien babes out there. You did a great job, and there's so much detail and eye candy

That you included an Edoan is awesome. Easily one of the least known Trek races out there :)

I wanted to do a "lived-in" scene... something like what I see at an airport today. Glad you caught the Edoan! :)

Same here. It seems both more vulnerable (thus more exciting) and more flexible.

That's a great thing to hear. gene's original vision is important to me and was a big part of why the show connected with me.

I can't figure how I missed this one unless I just glossed over it thinking it was the first version (and I was already loving it then). But this is amazing! The crew and ground personnel really bring it home. :D

I'd say it was worth the second attempt :)
Lot's of things to watch in fore- and background...and it all adds to a nicely told episode in The Rama's story. And it's a nice way to also get an impression about the ship's dimensions.
I'm only worried a bit about those guy working in that hight without any lifeline! :)

Sure - TOS is full of references to "small" or "one-man" scouts. We just never got to see any... until TAS, and then only some of the "one-man" types. It makes perfect sense that classes like this would be ubiquitous.

So what's the different between being "officially" and "unofficially" mind blown? Is it an order of magnitude... or just paperwork? ;p
