Droyne Courier Ship by RobCaswell Droyne Courier Ship by RobCaswell
This is another doodle from my sketchbook from back in the Traveller days. I think the Droyne (a small sentient species of winged.... "reptiles"?) module made mention of Droyne starships so I decided to try and visualize one. I'm not sure if anyone's done one (in print) since, but this was fresh ground to break at the time. This is intended as a small, 100 courier - a sort of Droyne counterpart to the Imperial Type-S. The hull was a sort of "wrapped metal" in appearance - think of looking like a metallic cigar wrapper ;)

It's worth noting that this is a scan of four-inch image. I doodle small and tight ;) Medium: pencil and the enthusiasm of youth.

is that...a smiley on its right "wing"?
however this again is a lovely design. These elegant and soft curves and shapes which are faintly reminiscent of a human torso are really nice.
The perfect carrier for little jumps from here to there on a lovely spar-time weekend :)

I never saw it as a smiley before.... but now I can't NOT see it as one!!! ;)

Hm... human torso curves? Well... it wasn't conscious, but.... confession time? I'm rather font of the curves of the female torso. Shocking, eh??? ;)

it's only shocking if you don't regard females as human :D
(okay, we are divine,...but that's something different :D )
And ...sorry for the smiley. Hope I didn't spoil your work!

No, no! It was amusing!

And having seen the finished art, and letting teh thing simmer in the aft-brainy parts, I find the design grew on me.

I was judging by a human standard, and it's Droyne.

You have indeed published this previously, it was the illustration for the Challenge 66 article Power Centers, by Charles Gannon. Has two character portraits and a Scout/Courier as well.

Definitely "cool," Aussies rarely say "sweet" to mean "darling"

Nice!

But, given the nature of Droyne eyes, the obscuration of the bridge by the body of the ship seems wrong to me.

Very cool :) The only Droyne ships I've seen are in their alien module and the odd adventure. I like the sort of wrapped/melted metal look and this ship is a very cool addition :)

Predominantly Dryone. The droyne ones were the ones shown in Alien Module 5.... (looking at my copy...) drawn by David Deitrick
