Hello? Bantam Books? Are you out there????

OK, maybe it's just nostalgia and an empty wallet talking, but it wouldn't it be cool to see "the James Blish Adaptations Remastered", with all new cover art?

Here's the original, if you don't have a copy :) cdn2.iofferphoto.com/img/item/…

Enterprise model by Aggi, Doomsday Machine mesh (converted to OBJ by me) by Raul Mamoru (via www.trekmeshes.ch).

I seem to recall that Commodore Matt Decker SURVIVED Blish's adaptation of "The Doomsday Machine".

I had to shoot special torpedoes into the mouth of 1 of those things on Star Trek Online.  Word to the wise, always keep your distance when killing a Giant Killer Space Log (as my dad would say :giggle:).

I wish I could legally offer one! Really. That's the hazard of doing fan art of licensed property...

Anyway, glad ya like!! :D

These are all phenomenal; love 'em. And given how many TREK novels are out there (not just the Blish works), there's a lot to play around with.

Yeah... but it's playing with the old Blish stuff that really called to me. It's like.... doin' the cover to the Bible ;p

I own no "Star Trek" book except the anime-styled paperbacks, but this cover art looks absolutely stunning.

I was going to ask, do you do covers for Bntam Books?. If you dont, they need to discover you. If you do, I'm not worthy.

Bantam seem to find the best scifi art covers I think. It's daft, if there is a choice between two books by the same author and story I go for the one with the best cover. 9/10 it tends to be covers published by Bantam.

Love your work

No, I'm not doing covers professionally... but thanks for the vote of confidence! :D It's a format I enjoy working in. Perhaps it's strange to make a hobby of something that is typically a piece of professional marketing...*shrug*.... but I have fun. I have been doing some professional book interior imergery - mostly with Allen Steele's work. But that's usually only one or two projects a year.

Hey Arcass!
I was wondering if there is any way to get a copy your work without the book lettering that is on it? I would like to make that my wallpaper.
Thanks

This is the best looking Doomsday Machine render I've seen.

I've tried to use Raul Mamoru's model, but I can't get the textures to work in Poser. Have you posted your conversion anywhere?

Really? He did some of those old covers? Which ones - do you recall?

I actually like some of those old/original cover paintings. They had such a wonderful, abstract 60's SF feel to them.

He did many, but funny enough he does not have them on his site.

here is the only one I can find.. possible not the ones you had in mind when doing this but I will show the one I like .....if that makes any sense.

Thanks! Wow - so where was that cover used? The US versions used either promo photos from the show or 60's SF quasi-abstracts.

My pleasure. I'm often put off by sterile soulless digital renderings, especially space-scapes, of which I see way too many, but your stuff has a lot of heart...or maybe it's mostly classic Trek for which I have a great affinity.

Nostalgia can be a powerful drug! ;)

But thank you - I'm flattered that the work transcends digital soullessness for you. And I know what you mean. Digital tools can empower an artist, but they don't make someone INTO an artist. One still needs to control the color and composition of a piece.

I knew a guy who worked his way into CG in Hollywood. It's been a few years ago now, and his take on it was that there would always be the animators who know the software and hardware inside and out, but who simply are not artists or designers. And their work will be slick and workman-like but without any soul. And then there are the real artists who maybe can't rebuild their computer, but who have an eye for shape, color, movement etc. They will be the ones who create truly great work with the medium.
