My "remastered" effort continues, visualizing "Journey to Babel" from this story collection. Of all the covers so far, this one feels the most 70's.... at least to me. Maybe it's that aqua color tint? I wanted to give it a sense of "Orion Slavegirl Green" on a subconscious level ;)

I think the color scheme makes it the most period-looking of the bunch.

A lot of James Bama's Doc Savage covers were green. It does have a cool retro look.

I'm sure it's nothing like the original, but I was trying to put a new twist on the old layouts/formats. Did you see them all? [link]

It looks as if this has been in a used book store for decades :) That's a good thing! Cause you certainly did capture that 70's feel :) As always, great design!

Yeah, there is a sun-faded quality that the greenish hue evokes.

How about an "ST illustration" contest when you need to make a pic based on any ST literary (and non-episode) source?

I had thought about maybe a "Good Reads and Guilty Pleasures" where I ask people to do a new cover for their favorite ST story/novel... no matter how utterly without literary value it may be....

Hey Dave, I hope it comes out fairly soon. I have about another 10 days on my free Max trial. After that I'll have to rely on others for conversion.

What else ya working on right now?

The thing that makes it REALLY feel like the 1970s is the price.

Just saying.

See, I have to write things like that because "Another awesome image" would get boring really fast. Besides, EVERYONE tells you that.

$1.95 is a special price for me. That's where I drew the line (back in 1980) and said, "If they ever charge more than that for a paperback, I'll stop reading them!"

...so I only read hardbacks, today, at ten times that price....

I get what you mean by that 70's feeling. Might be the tint. Hard to put my finger on it. Love the wee Orion ship too.

Yes, the dynamic crew of the Enterprise - not to be confused with the inescapably boring crew, who are all sentenced to the second shift, where nothing exciting ever happens.

... except for that one time when the ship got tangled up in a title block that someone left just lying about on a marked throughway!

It's the "dynamic crew", vs. the "static crew" of TAS ;)

Or even the "earnest crew" of TNG, who boldly sit around a conference table, deliberating issues that have never been deliberated upon before...

While reviewing Starfleet Powerpoint presentations... Or agonising about how the Prime Directive has tied their hands *yet* again, so they can't do anything to "interfere" with a planet/culture/people that knows all about people from the sky and space travel...

Maybe it's just me, but I watched TOS because Kirk & co. tried to do the right thing -- not stand around whining about how Clause 147-D, Paragraph 12 wouldn't let them get involved!!
