Safonne Attack by RobCaswell Safonne Attack by RobCaswell
This is another from the stash of recently returned to me West End Star Wars art. I'm pretty sure all this is from Cracken's Most Wanted. My notes tell me that Safonne is involved here... but that's all I know... aside from the obvious! A Rebel Blockade Runner fires on a Action VI Transport (maybe the Wild Karrde?).

Of note, this is the only time (I'm pretty sure) that I ever got to do a 3/4 view on my Action VI design. So for what it's worth, the details here reflect the designer's intent.

Ink on tone board.

I love how much this reminds me of the opening to A New Hope, but with the role of the Blockade Runner reversed. :D

oooooh....
can it be that this is the first space combat I see from you?
however, it was nicely done, dear!
I do like the angles of their approaching a lot! That looks..serious!

Well the Action VI could be modified?

Or... it could just be toast ;p

JUST like the Wild Karrde ;) Though I never drew any of her "modifications". As designed, she's just a stock Action VI Freighter (aka "Imperial Fleet Replenishment Vessel") that West End's editorial staff randomly chose to fill the Wild Karrde role.

I LOVE Corellian corvettes!
Very detailed and perfectly rendered image, and in a glorious perspective. Those engines must have been a pain in the ass.. Great effect with the explosions.
Compositionally speaking, I like how the planets balance the shapes of the ships.

I barely remembered doing this, so I can't really remember if the engines were a pain or not. But they sure look it!!! ;)

Thanks. I think it was actually published rotated 90 degrees from this. I like it better with the ship coming DOWN on its victim.

I like it when battles in space are done on 3-Dimesional planes. I know that Lucas was a big fan of WW1 & WW2 dogfight footage and htat greatly influenced his scenes in the movies. Imagine if the Star Destroyers came in from differing angles of approach.

As Han Solo demonstrated: Three ISDs driving straight at each other on a flat plane, like they're on a parking lot. Then Han pulls a 90-degree turn - straight 'down' relative to the ISDs...

Your chosen orientation shows more attitude and determination to succeed for the attacking ship, in my opinion.

lol...what I can't figure out is why three girls who are sitting next to each other will engage in a text conversation instead of a real one...I suspect it's so their parents won't know they're planning to go to a bar even though they're underage...:)
