The Passage Part 2 by RobCaswell The Passage Part 2 by RobCaswell
Captain’s Log, Stardate 60442.1: Captain Green-One-Left recording. When our probes registered a third supernova ignition, we knew that we were probably not dealing with any kind of naturally occurring cause – at least not one known to Federation science. And now, with three data points, it was clear that this “plague of stellar explosions” was progressing along a fairly straight line.

As the Clarke hovered in the shadow of our planetary shield, our sense of excitement began to turn to anxiety. I struggled to keep my dorsal emoting membrane from taking on a greenish color and vibrating as to panic the rest of the crew, but such a response can not be easily suppressed – and even less by one in Left phase!

Our dread turned to alarm as another stellar explosion ignited below the Clarke, leaving us no where to hide from the energetic wavefronts. It was time to run. Without recalling the probes, we engaged the slipstream drive and charted a course perpendicular to the path of stellar cataclysm. The ship’s drive easily out ran the wavefronts and soon our view was placid once again, as if the events never happened.

I’ve had Commander Tate put us on a course parallel to the apparent direction of travel of this disruptive phenomenon. Soon the wavefronts will catch us again, but we should be able to adjust to maintain a safe distance and observe to see if this awesome path of stellar chaos continues to propagate. I have called a meeting of the science chiefs in three standard hours for their evaluations and theories on what we’re seeing.

Nicely done. Great angle, lighting and overall composition. Are the Qs fighting it out again? ;)

It's hard to say. Could be..... though that's not quite what I had in mind :)

I figured, but it just popped into my head... can't say I've witnessed even one supernova yet, so they're not THAT plentiful in our immediate vicinity. Good thing, too, I guess. ;)

is that "starship-hunting with super novas"??
That's what I thought when the novas popped up one after the other chasing the Clarke through the space.
I like how your combining the "big things" with the small things, like the "plague of explosion" with the "dorsal emoting membrane"....that's kewl :)
And I like the treatment of the picture a lot! It almost looks like painted!

Thanks. You know me, I'm always leaning towards "painted" over "photoreal" when I can get away with it ;)

The AMT model kit box art! Even though the ship is "upside down" relative to the viewpoint - I kind of like the design of it in that orientation :)

Thanks. I wanted to give a sense of the ship spinning upward toward the viewer from the bottom of the frame. I figured inverting the ship might help aid in that sense of twisting motion.

It always seemed strange to me how seemingly Newtonian explosion waves propigate faster than light in the Star Trek universe.

Yeah, Trek and physics can often be difficult dance partners.

it's a good book and (for me at least) it made my Trek Universe more seemingly real.

I'm annoyed with myself for playing Star Trek Online practically all day...when I specifically didn't want to do that. :X I only went in to get some screenshots to make characters in DS. Then I did something to level up, and two new missions opened for me and now I finally turned it off. :)

I'm also watched silly vlogs on YouTube...I gotta do something more fun...sheesh! :P

That's why I don't play it. I know I'd get lost in it and I'd only look up when the Sun exploded.
