Warp 11 by RobCaswell Warp 11 by RobCaswell
Contact with a truly alien spacebound species of energy beings leads to a startling discovery as they lodge themselves in the Enterprise's nacelles and act as a kind of symbiont with the warp coils, increasing the ship's drive to warp 11 capacity. After a few parsecs travel, the creatures disengaged and continued on their separate way. Their kind has never been found by the Federation, since.

Reimagined Enterprise by Madkoifish.

Wow, I love this Enterprise ever since I saw the clip of it on Youtube. At first I though it was Gabe's Enterprise but I found I like this one MUCH better and wish it were the 09 Enterprise.

Urk! I'm not sure that I remember.... but if I were to do it again I'd start with a bold starfield, then take it into Photoshop and apply FILTER>BLUR>RADIAL BLUR set to "zoom".

I still cry over what they designed as the USS Enterprise" for that last "STAR TREK".
This is what it should have been or anything else that was not of what they finally decided to go with.

I thought it wasn't a problem that the ship couldn't handle that speed, but that the reason they stayed around warp 9 was because, in theory, at warp 10 the ship would occupy all points in space at the same time... [link]

Yes, but the warp scale was re'distributed'. What was known as 'Transwarp' during the TOS era (including the feature films) eventually became the standard warp during TNG era times.

On the following page [link] is a table that compares the warp scale based on the old formula to the new formula used for TNG which means in theory Warp 11 in the old scale would be around Warp 9 in the new scale (ish +/-).

Although that scale lists Warp 20 as inifinity and not Warp 10, it looks pretty good. Gotta give some sort of dispensation to the sci-fi part, too. ;)

Apologies for the random, long babble. :O_o:

Okay, the image definitely has the Swoosh Factor! :D And I love the plot, that is cool! :)

But the understanding of Treknology in the subsequent posts is awful.

1) The dish at the front of main engineering is the main deflector dish, always has been and always will be. (The three spots could be a secondary deflector, but looks more like windows to me.)

2) The main sensor is the dome on the underside of the saucer.

3) Warp drive is powered by an matter/anti-matter reactor in the engineering section, and the impulse engineer are powered by separate fusion reactors in the saucer section. The warp core is NOT connected to the impulse engines through the neck section, because no one is stupid enough to design a starship with the main power plant going through its thinnest part.

*exasperated sigh* (as you can see I've been seeing these Treknology arguments a lot lately)

*sulks off* :(

1) Chill.
2) Relax.
3) Breathe deep.

The deep/dark secret? The Federation has been playing a poker game for centuries. They never developed matter/antimatter technology and "dilithium" is a sham so they won't look weak in front of the Romulans and Klingons. Inside each nacelle is a looooong bank of serially-linked hamster wheels. The Enterprise is and always will be hamster powered.... but it's one of the Federation's most closely guarded secrets.

OMFnG!

I SO want to animate a scene with the warp engines having hamster wheels powering them!

I'd mention the TNG engine room connection, but I'm pretty sure you already know it.
LOL!

Nice image by the way.
I just spent a good 4-5 minutes looking at it.

Well.... you, me, and Drell-7. JJ's effort do nothing for me and his Trek.... well, it effectively killed the franchise for me. It's what totally threw me back to delving into the good old days of Trek, before all the spinoffs, before TNG, before most of the movies, before Vulcans became mystical space elves.....

Yup. I got no use for JJ.

:) I suppose it depends on what source you this is right :) but I personally like both.
when considered that even at full impulse the ship would need to move large particles
of matter out of the way for the ship.

I also always wondered where on the Reliant class of ship it was. I never check that one

the main sensors and Navigational Deflectors in the TOS and TNG are both on the Engineering hull and on the Primary hull too.. for when the Ship Primary Hulls have
to separate, and its the same in the Movie Refit
(TOS is a last resort as it cannot reattach like in TNG,)

Franz Joseph also include both term for the item in question ..I just checked my copies of the blueprints

stunning image bty way .. get ting back to the reason I looked :)

Well...
Warp 11 is not really a problem for the Starship's warpdrive.
It's the super structure that can't handle the speed.

I always thought it was a case of the nav deflectors being able to safely compensate at those speeds. Whatever the case, it was just "an excuse for a purdy picture" ;)

In TOS, there's actually no such thing as a nav deflector like in TNG and later. That big dish is the main sensor array.
Buuuuut it was worth it.

No, the nav deflectors are those three spots on the forward part of the primary hull (see Franz Joseph). And that's how it always was until TNG polluted the soup a decade later.
